time + caution = success when i had tinnitus. was no one treatment that seemed to claim overnight success or absolute success when i researched it a bit. some info i found on it even warned that it is possible for some cases’ to have one or more symptoms that are present for /life/. look it up on as many medical info sites that aren’t run by pharmaceutical giants as you can stomach. it is informative, encouraging and /slightly/ unsettling with the worst-case scenarios. :)

*additional info added: one thing i found in my digging for info on it is a few ppl/groups claiming to have a cure (or the equivalent) for tinnitus. however, i also found that these sites and medical facilities had a great deal of doctors and patients alike refuting their claims. i don’t know myself, but if you do look into some program or expert’s method, perhaps only do so if it is free or you have disposable income. this way if there is no success you will be out only time. also, by caution i specifically mean avoiding water, wind and any other irritants (such as caffeine, like another mentioned) from getting in my ear (or in me as with caffeine).

I don’t know about ear protection. I have tinnitus in my deaf ear, i guess there is no such thing as silence. I’ve found that sugar, caffine, and alcohol all make the ringing much louder.
